The Estes Park Scavenger Hunt has always been a popular activity during the Winter Festival weekend.  We have a great variety of merchants participating this year, and the hunt will take you all over town (not just downtown).  Pay special attention to how the clues are written, and the wording, and you’ll have an easier time figuring out the scavenger hunt stop locations. 

Here’s how it works: 

Pick up your clue sheet at the Visitor Center (500 Big Thompson Ave., --across the street from McDonalds downtown) or at the entrance to the Estes Park Winter Festival at Stanley Fairgrounds (1209 Manford Ave).  You will decipher the clues one by one on the hand out, and determine what business location the clue is leading you to.  You will arrive at that store and the person there may ask you to complete a task in the store to receive your ticket.  You might be asked to find something in the store, or do something silly!  Once you have completed the task (if any) the merchant will tape a ticket to your clue sheet, and then you will continue on to the next stop on your sheet.

Once all tickets have been obtained, return to the Convention and Visitors Bureau or Stanley Park Fair Grounds - Festival Main Desk, and turn in your sheet to any staff member there.  You do not have to turn in Friday’s sheet on Friday, etc….  You can turn the sheets in on a later day than the designated hunt day.  Deadline is Tuesday at 12 pm.  (Fairgrounds will be closed Monday and Tuesday, so drop-off is at the CVB only on Monday and Tuesday).

The winners are NOT chosen by first come, first winner.  Every person that completes a correct sheet, is entered into a drawing for that day.  There are three prize packages awarded each day that includes FREE lodging, meals and gifts….essentially a complimentary weekend package for you in beautiful Estes Park.  Since the hunt is Fri. – Monday, that equates to 12 weekend packages in Estes being awarded (there may be more based on additional prizes being donated). Your chances are very good that you will win something, so don’t give up!  Packages are good for one year.  HAVE FUN!!

THINGS TO KNOW:

The ticket colors match the color of your clue sheet.  If your sheet is red, you need red tickets taped to your sheet for that day.

You can do a hunt from a previous day, just be sure you get the correct color tickets from the merchant.  Winners will be verified and those completed correctly will all be entered into a drawing for EACH day.  Clue sheets for future days will not be handed out ahead of time.

Maps can be obtained at the Convention and Visitors Bureau and Stanley Park Fair Grounds – Festival Main Desk.

The hunt is not just downtown, it will take you all over Estes Park and driving will be necessary.

Please keep in mind that these shop owners have given time and prizes to provide this scavenger hunt for the festival.  Please be courteous when in their shops, and be mindful of the fact that there may be customers ahead of you in line.  Please wait your turn and allow the shopkeeper to finish transacting business with paying customers.  Be polite and aware that these are places of business.

You can ask anyone for help and in some cases, if you are unfamiliar with Estes Park, asking for help may be necessary.  Take a break at Bond Park’s heated pavillion for some beer/wine or chili and ask the volunteers there for help as well.  Remember, this is not a timed hunt.  All correct sheets will be entered in a drawing for over 12 prize packages.

Stops do not have to be completed in order.

The hunt starts at NOON on Friday and there will be a new hunt starting at 9 AM Saturday, Sunday and Monday.  You can participate in as many as you like. Deadline is Tuesday at 12 pm.  (Drop-off is at the CVB only on Tuesday).

Tickets for each location are numbered, and the numbers are tracked with the appropriate store location. In order to win, you must have the correctly colored ticket from the correct location, in the correct number series for that store.  No ticket sharing, as it will disqualify you from winning!   HAVE FUN!
